Joe Hunter, 55, of Macon Mississippi passed away Wednesday, September 8, 2010 at Baptist Memorial Golden Triangle Hospital in Columbus, MS after a brief illness. His funeral services will be Friday at 10:00 A.M. from Cockrell Funeral Home Chapel in Macon, MS. with Bro. Glenn Miller officiating. Interment will follow at Oddfellows Cemetery in Macon. A visitation for friends and family will be held Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Any memorials may be made to Central Academy P.O. Box 231 Macon, MS 39341. Cockrell Funeral Home of Macon has been entrusted with the funeral service.
Joe was a native and lifetime resident of Macon, MS. He was a graduate of Central Academy where he was very popular and was a star football player for the Vikings, handling the kick-off, extra-point, and punting duties. He worked locally as a farmer for many years and then became a Meter Reader for Four County Electric Power Association in Lowndes and Noxubee Counties. He was a very friendly person who enjoyed visiting with friends and family. He enjoyed being outdoors and attending local drag-races. He will sorely missed by his many friends and loved ones.
Joe is survived by two nieces: Leslie (Randy) Woolington of Sturgis, MS and Erin (Michael) Jones of Macon, MS; three great-nephews: Seth Woolington and Jay and Carson Jones; and by one sister-in-law: Rebecca Hunter of Macon, MS. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Louise Hunter and by his brother: Jimmy Hunter.
