Mrs. Mildred Dallas Staten, 87, of Macon, MS passed away Monday, August 23, 2010 at Noxubee General Hospital in Macon. Her funeral service will be Saturday, August 28, 2010 at 1:30 P.M. from First Baptist Church in Macon, MS. under the direction of Cockrell Funeral Home. Dr. Bill Duncan will officiate at the services. A visitation will be held at First Baptist Church one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Oddfellows Cemetery in Okolona, MS. Mrs. Staten was born in Okolona, MS, where she graduated from Okolona High School. She married Charles L. Staten on September 16, 1941. After World War II, Mr. Staten joined the Mississippi Highway Patrol and was stationed in Macon, Ms. Mrs. Staten soon became affiliated with the Sears Catalogue Store in Macon, where she worked until her retirement. She was very active in First Baptist Church where her love for children led her to keep the nursery for more than 20 years. She was also very active in her community and was a member of the Jolly 20’s group and also the Magnolia Club. She was a wonderful seamstress who made clothes not only for her children but for her friends as well. She and her husband had a wonderful retirement and especially enjoyed traveling all over the country attending Marine Corps reunions. Mrs. Staten was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Marine Corps League. While she had a deep love of Macon and its people, the center of her life was her family, especially her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; one son: Charles David Staten; one sister: Jean Sing; and one brother: Bill Dallas.
She is survived by one daughter: Mrs. Sue Stokes – Dekalb, MS; one son: Edward Staten – Inverness, FL; 5 grandchildren; Mary Elizabeth Sprague (Matt), Lacy McGahen (Rob), Jennifer Vragobic (Will), Donnie Stokes, 1st LT. Charles Edward Staten and 2 great-grandchildren; Benjamin Sprague and Lucas Edward Sprague and one sister: Mrs. Doris Colbert – Trebloc, MS.
