Clarice King Cole

August 8, 1910 — June 24, 2010

Mrs. Cole was born in Lauderdale County, MS on August 8, 1910 to the late James and Edna King. She was a graduate of Meridian High School. She managed a cigar shop in a major downtown Meridian hotel during the late 1930's and early 1940's. While employed here she met her first husband, Charles Hines. They moved to Memphis TN . After Charles passed away she managed the Huddle House restaurant in Memphis. She was later a Hostess at St. Lukes Methodist Church in Memphis as well as a nanny to several Doctor's families. While serving as a nanny, she took vacations with the doctor's families and took care of their children. While she was a hostess and nanny, she met her second husband, W.B. Cole, Sr, who also preceded her in death. In 1984, she moved to Macon MS and in 2002 she moved into the home of her sister and brother-in-law, Edith and Hubert Hunter. Mrs. Hunter passed away in 2009. She was lovingly cared for by her nephews, Hubert and Janice Hunter and Harold and Charlotte Hunter as well as three sitters: Janet Garrard, Joyce Eaves, and Doard Bell Gregory, all of whom did a wonderful job.
Mrs. Cole enjoyed needlework and handcrafts and made many items for senior groups, family, neighbors, and friends.She had a wonderful sense of humor to the very last and was looking forward to her 100th birthday party with great anticipation. She was preceded in death by her parents and two husbands as well as three sisters: Marieta Springer, Louise Cooper, and Edith Hunter. She was also preceded in death by five brothers: M.M."Bud" King, Hugh "Sonny" King, Lester "Jake" King, Oscar King, and James "Snooky" King.
She is survived by two step-sons: Jimmy & Dawn Cole - Jackson, TN and Bill & Joanne Cole - Chattanooga, TN. as well as by one sister: Bernice Steele -Houston, TX; two brothers: Edmond King -Apple Valley, CA. and
Dr. Robert E. King, Jr. of Raymond, MS. and 8 step-grandchildren.
