George Marion "Mate" Jernigan, 82, died Sat. June 19, 2010 at Winston Medical Center in Lousivlle, MS. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 22, 2010 at 3:oo p.m at Cockrell Funeral HOme. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Oddfellows Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Palmer Home for Children, P.O. Mr. Mate was born November 5, 1927 to the late Henry Lamar Jernigan and Lena Watkins Jernigan in Mashulaville, MS where he resided all of his life. He graduated from the Noxubee Agricultural High School. He worked as a parts manager for John Deere Equipment Co for over 40 years. He was a member of Mashulaville Community Church. He was a member of Macon Lodge #40 F&AM and of the Hamasa Temple in Meridian. He enjoyed cattle farming and gardening. He was preceded in death by two sisters,
Mamie Elizabeth McAdory and Mary Winifred Lambert as well as four brothers, James, John, Julius and Van Jernigan. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Jernigan of Mashulaville, MS; 2 daughters, Shirley Spell of Macon and Carolyn Thomas of Shuqualak; 1 son Edward Robbins, III of Macon, MS. 7 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
