Bessie Woodward Jackson

Miss Bessie Woodward Jackson,94, of Macon, MS died Saturday, June 19,2010 at Oakwood Manor in Brooksville, MS. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 22 at X-Prairie United Methodist Church at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Oddfellows Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to X-Prairie United Methodist Church or the donor's choice.

Miss Jackson was born on May 5, 1916 in Yazoo County, Ms, and was the daughter of Carl Y. and Myrtle Pepper Jackson. She was educated in Noxubee and Kemper County schools. She was a graduate of East Mississippi Junior College in Scooba, MS and received a Bachelors degree in Education from University of Education. She taught school for eight years. she worked for the U.S.Government for three years during World War II and later worked for Mississippi State Employment Service for 32 years until her retirement. She was a longtime member of the X-Prairie United Methodist Church near Macon, MS. She was a member of the Dancing Rabbit Chapter of the Daughters of American Revolution.

Miss Jackson is survived by two nieces, Hazel B. Newman of Jackson, GA and Mary B.(Richard) Brown of Naples, Fla. Also surviving are three cousins, Warren EArl (Edith) Hummer of Louisville, MS and Marion Hummer and Ruby Hummer of Macon,MS.
