Mr. Ira G. “Ikey” Guy, 86, passed away Sunday, February 11, 2018 at Noxubee General Hospital in Macon, MS. A funeral service is planned for Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Salem Memorial Church near Macon with Bro. Glenn Miller officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held at Cockrell Funeral Home Monday evening from 6:30 until 8:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to Salem Cemetery Fund, 23 Hunter St., Macon, MS 39341. Cockrell Funeral Home of Macon is honored to be entrusted with the arrangements.
Ira Gaines Guy was born on November 12, 1931 in Macon, MS to the late Jim and Ruth Jackson Guy. He was a graduate of Macon High School and Mississippi State University with a degree in education. After graduating from college he entered the U.S. Air Force. While he was stationed in Colorado, he met and married Ella Mae Schwindt. They lived in Colorado for a period of time before moving back to Macon, MS. He began his teaching career at Noxubee County School District and taught there for thirty-three years. In his spare time, Mr. Guy enjoyed fishing, hunting and working with horses.
Mr. Guy is survived by his wife of 61 years: Ella Schwindt Guy of Macon and by two sons: Jimmy Guy (Sheila) of Macon and Rodney Guy (Debbie) of Westover, Al. He is also survived by three grandsons: Brad Guy (Amanda) and Tyler Guy (Jennifer) both of Macon and Bryan Guy (Jillian) of Crossville, TN. He is also survived by eight great-grandchildren: Taylor Guy, Brennan Guy, Spencer Guy, Colton Guy, Clara Guy, and Carlee Guy, all of Macon and Will Guy and Whitleigh Guy of Crossville, TN.
