Mrs. Virginia C. Mapp, 73, of Brooksville, MS passed away at her residence in Brooksville, MS on Saturday, Jan. 13. Her funeral service will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 16 at Brooksville Baptist Church at 11:00 A.M. Bro. Jay Spiller will officiate at the service. Graveside service will be held Saturday, January 20, 2018 at 12 p.m. at Memorial Gardens in Columbus, MS. Memorials are requested to be made to the Brooksville Baptist Church P.O. Box 52 Brooksville, MS 39739 or to the BEMP Cemetery Fund 586 Hines Road Brooksville, MS 39739Cockrell Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with the service arrangements.

Virginia Creekmore was born in York, Ala on September 10, 1944 to the late John Henry and Marguerite Dickert Creekmore. She was a graduate of Lee High School in Columbus, MS and attended East Mississippi Junior College. She married Jimmy Mapp on January 23, 1963 and they made their home in Brooksville, MS. Mrs. Mapp was employed as an executive secretary for the Agricultural Economics Department of Mississippi State University. She was a long-time member of Brooksville Baptist Church. Mrs. Mapp was a multi-talented person who enjoyed crafts and gardening and was an avid seamstress. She was a member of the Noxubee County Garden Club and the Holiday Club and was also a “dyed-in-the-wool” Mississippi State fan. Mrs. Mapp looked forward each week to going out to eat on Friday nights. She loved her children and grandchildren and her dog, Jack, who held a special place in her heart.

Mrs. Virginia Mapp is survived by her husband: Jimmy Mapp of Brooksville, MS; one daughter: Melanie Hines Mapp (Bubba) of Brooksville and by two sons: Jim Mapp (Sandi) of Brooksville and John Mapp (Leslie) of Foley, AL. She also leaves behind three grandchildren: James Mapp III, Reilly Mapp, and Michael Mapp as well as one sister: Susan C. May of Jefferson City, MO.

The family would like to thank Legacy Hospice of Starkville for the wonderful care we received for our wife and mother during her illness.
