William “Bill” Butler, 65, of Brooksville, MS passed away Thursday, December 14, 2017 at Regency Hospital in Meridian, MS. His funeral service will be held on Monday, December 18, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Brooksville United Methodist Church with Bro Curtis Bray officiating. Visitation will be held at the church one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be made to Shaeffer’s Chapel United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 863, Columbus, MS 39703. Cockrell Funeral Home of Macon, MS is honored to be entrusted with the service arrangements.
William “Bill” Butler was born on February 3, 1952 in Macon, MS to the late Oscar Eugene and Pauline Rose Von Kanel Butler and grew up on the family farm near Brooksville. He graduated from Noxubee County High School in 1970 and began operating the farm after his graduation. In 1973 he married the former Becky Wright and together they continued farming until 1998, when Bill began working for Barge Forest Products in Macon,MS. He retired after 13 years of service at Barge Forest Products and began working at Superior Fish Products until ill heath forced him to stop working completely. Bill was a Christian and was a member of Deerbrook Baptist Church, where he was baptized as a youth. He attended Brooksville United Methodist Church for several years and for the past 15 years, he and his wife had attended Shaeffer’s Chapel United Methodist Church. Bill was a loving father and husband who enjoyed spending time with his family and having family meals together. He was also an avid deer hunter.
Bill leaves behind his wife: Becky W. Butler of Brooksville, MS; one daughter: Liza Ross of Meridian, MS; two sons: Hank Butler of Bailey, MS and Ben Butler of Madison, MS; two sisters: Patricia Moran of Shreveport, LA and Frances King of Naples, FL; two brothers: David Butler of Starkville, MS and Carey Butler of Columbus, MS as well as by seven grandchildren.
