Elmer "Doc" Green Taylor

Mr. Elmer G. “Doc” Taylor, 81, of Brooksville, MS passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 06, 2017 at his residence surrounded by his family. A service is planned Thursday, December 7, 2017 at 2 p.m. at Soule Chapel Church near Macon, MS with Bro. Wayne Studdard officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. There will also be a visitation Saturday , December 9, 2017 at the home of Vance and Corrin Taylor, 11803 Macon Lynn Creek Rd, Brooksville MS from 12-3 p.m. The family requests no flowers, any memorials may be made to the T.K. Martin Center, P.O. Box 9736, Mississippi State, MS 39762. Cockrell Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements.

“Doc” as he was known to his family and friends was born on July 22, 1936 to the late Garrett Williams and Emma Mae Bledsoe Taylor in Brooksville, MS. He was a graduate of Brooksville High School. He served in the U.S. Army at Fort Gordon, GA and was selected in June of 1959 to be stationed at the Provost Marshal General’s School . He was married to the former Glenda Miller of Louisville, Ms. Doc was a lifelong farmer and cattleman in Noxubee County and had served as Noxubee County Sheriff and Tax Collector. He was a director for the Tenn-Tom Waterway. He was a friendly person who enjoyed people, but he loved spending time with his family and each week he had a dinner date with his grand-daughters. He enjoyed farming and being outdoors and his hobbies included working on tractors, baling hay, and working side by side with his son, Vance. He also enjoyed listening to Elvis Presley and collecting newspaper articles. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Benny Taylor.

He is survived by his wife: Glenda M Taylor of Brooksville, MS; a son: Vance Taylor and wife Corrin; two daughters: Renee McDonald and spouse, Kim and Leigh Anne Randall and spouse, Dave; 11 grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy Folsom, Starkville, MS, two brothers, Robert Wade Taylor of Warren, Ohio, and Tommy Taylor of Collierville, TN.
