Mr. Jim Elkins, 79, of Macon, MS passed away at Noxubee County Nursing Home in Macon, MS on Saturday, December 2, 2017. A visitation is planned for Friday, December 8, 2017 at Cockrell Funeral Home from 4-6 p.m. Memorials may be made to Pioneer Memorial Cemetery, P.O. Box 82, Bluewater, NM 87005. Cockrell Funeral Home, Inc. is entrusted with arrangements.
Jimmy Leroy Elkins was born on April 2, 1938 in Grants, New Mexico to the late Ina Titjen and Mark A. Elkins. He married Nelda Garner on July 12, 1957 and resided in New Mexico until 1964 at which time he moved to Mississippi. In 1987, he returned to New Mexico. Jim spent his life as a rancher and cowboy. While residing in Mississippi, he became a partner in a rodeo production company. He was a co-founder of the American Cowboy Association based in the Southeast. He was inducted into the Professional Cowboy Association Hall of Fame in 2003. He was a member of The Church of Latter Day Saints in Grants, NM. He was loved and admired by his children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and in laws. Jim is preceded in death by his wife, Nelda Elkins.
Jim is survived by his daughters, Gayla Campbell of Macon and, Trisha Elkins of Terry, MS; two sons, Allan Elkins of Tuscumbia, AL and Pardue Elkins of Bluewater, NM; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
