James Hunter Boswell

Mr. James Hunter Boswell, 89, formerly of Macon, MS passed away on Sunday, October 22, 2017 at The Carrington Nursing Center in Starkville, MS. His funeral service is set for Friday, October 27th at Cockrell Funeral Home Chapel in Macon at 11:00 A.M. with Bro. Steve Galloway officiating. A one hour visitation will follow the funeral service and a private burial will take place at Oddfellows Cemetery in Macon. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to First Baptist Church P.O. Box 540 Macon, MS 39341. Cockrell Funeral Home of Macon is honored to be entrusted with the service arrangements.

James Hunter Boswell was born on September 9, 1928 in the Mashulaville community of Noxubee County, MS to the late Joseph Vernon and Sinnie Hunter Boswell and had lived in Noxubee County all his life. He was a graduate of Macon High School where he was an all-sport athlete. He worked for the Hyuck Felt Company in felt production and retired after over 38 years of employment. He was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church in Macon. James Hunter liked hunting and fishing, but he truly enjoyed playing golf, especially the impromptu three-man scrambles held at Zack Brooks Golf Course in Macon. Over his years of playing golf, he made three hole-in-ones. James Hunter will be remembered as a quiet and easy-going man who enjoyed life’s simple pleasures.

James Hunter Boswell is survived by his wife of 57 years: Lucille Fair Boswell of Starkville, MS; his sons: Mike Powell (Cynthia) of Montgomery, AL; Cleveland Powell (Judy) of Van Buren, Ark. and Justin Powell (Carrie) of Starkville, MS. He also leaves behind two sisters: Linda B. Grantham of Hattiesburg, MS and Nina B. Allred (S.L.) of Richardson, TX as well as 4 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. James Hunter was preceded in death by his parents and 3 sisters: Libby Lanier, Josie Campbell Shaul, and Dot Clearman.
