Gayle Mosley Butler, 71, passed away on Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at Specialty Hospital in Meridian, MS. Her funeral service will be held at Butler Pentecostal Church near Shuqualak, MS on Sunday, October 22, 2017 at 3:00 P.M.
Bro. Gerald Butler and Bro. Ronnie Cartwright will be officiating. Interment in Butler Cemetery will follow the church service. Visitation will be from 2:00 until 3:00 at the church Sunday. Any memorials are requested to be made to your favorite church missions fund. Cockrell Funeral Home of Macon, MS is honored to be entrusted with the funeral arrangements.
Gayle Mosley was born on May 7, 1946 to the late Robert Dee and Dollie Mae Covington Mosley in Meridian, MS and grew up in the Daleville, MS area. She graduated from Dekalb High School, Dekalb, MS with the class of 1964 and later graduated from East Mississippi Junior College in Scooba, MS. She was also a graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education. She married Jerry Butler in 1969 and together they enjoyed 48 years of marriage. She was a loving and dedicated wife. Gayle M. Butler taught briefly at Clarksdale Elementary School in Clarksdale, MS. She and her husband then followed the requirements of his job by moving all over the eastern half of the United States, including Memphis, TN, Baton Rouge, LA, Chicago, IL, Racine, WI, and Orangeburg, SC. In Orangeburg, Gayle worked with her husband at their business, Butler Implement Company, for over ten years. After their retirement, they moved back to Meridian, MS in 2008 where they made their home. She was a member of Highland Baptist Church in Meridian and had been active in church choirs in several of the cities where they had lived. She and her husband had also gone on several mission trips to Peru. Gayle enjoyed shopping, especially for shoes, and traveling and was known to friends and family as a great cook. She made friends wherever she went and kept in touch with them all through-out the years.
Gayle is survived by her husband: Jerry Butler of Meridian, MS; two brothers: Alton Mosley (Betty) and Wallace Mosley (Shelia), both of Meridian, and by one sister-in-law: Brenda T. Butler of Shuqualak, MS. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews and six very special caregivers, whose kindness and compassion is so very much appreciated: Lakeisha Phillips, Angela Campbell, Tina Coleman, Kimberly Scott, Miranda Hudson and Betty Grayson. She was preceded in death by an infant son: Stephen Butler; her parents; and one sister: Gloria Mosley
