Ralph M. Spurgeon, 95, of Brooksville, MS passed away on Thursday, September 21, 2017 at Noxubee
County Nursing Home. A visitation will be held Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at Cockrell Funeral Home from 10:30 until 12:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to Brooksville Cemetery Fund, 586 Hines Rd., Brooksville, MS 39739. Cockrell Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements.
Ralph McNabb Spurgeon, Jr. was born on January 27, 1922 in Brooksville, MS to the late Ralph M. and Helen Wooten Spurgeon. He was an agricultural graduate of MSU, Class of 1945. In April of 1945, he married his sweetheart, Dorothy Jensen. He was a lifetime farmer who farmed both row crops and livestock. Mr. Spurgeon served on the Farm Service Agency board for many years and was once chosen Farmer of the Year. Mr. Spurgeon also served on the board of directors at the Bank of Brooksville for several years. He was a member of New Bethel Church of Cliftonville. He was an avid quail hunter. His favorite quote…”Use it up, wear it out, made do or do without.” He was also a member of the Holiday Club. He is preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy, a grandson, Robbie Spurgeon, sisters, Ann Megehee and Helen Rowles.
Mr. Spurgeon is survived by his daughter, Brenda Spurgeon of Jackson, MS; sons, Bobby Spurgeon and Paul Spurgeon both of Brooksville, MS; three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
The family would like to give heartfelt thanks to his wonderful caregiver, Paula Malone, who was so good to our dad and to the Noxubee County Nursing Home Staff for their care and compassion. To Halcyon Hospice Staff and chaplain, Melvin Mordecai, many thanks for you all that you did during dad’s last days.
