Mary Alice Beasley Coleman

Mary Alice Beasley Coleman, 74, of Shuqualak, MS passed away at her son’s residence on Thursday, August 3, 2017 after a brief illness. Mrs. Coleman’s funeral service will be held on Sunday, August 6, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. at Macedonia United Methodist Church with Bro. Gerald Butler and Bro. Ray Luke officiating. Interment will immediately follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorials please be made to the American Cancer Society P.O. Box 22478 Oklahoma City, OK 73123. Cockrell Funeral Home of Macon is entrusted with the funeral arrangements.

She was born in the Macedonia community of Noxubee County on October 21, 1942 to the late William Preston and Mary Sue Holdiness Beasley and lived most of her life in the Shuqualak area. She was a graduate of Shuqualak High School and later in her life also graduated from East Mississippi Community College with a degree in Business. Mrs. Coleman worked at various jobs in Noxubee County, including as a waitress at Hunter’s Macon Motel and Restaurant, a nurse’s aide at Noxubee General Hospital in Macon, and as a store clerk for Vernon’s Amoco Service Station in Macon. She moved to Texas for a time where she worked as a book-keeper before moving back home where she attended EMCC. Mrs. Coleman worked for several years in the shipping department of GSI in Macon before taking a position as a bank teller at Bankfirst in Macon where she worked until her retirement. Mrs. Coleman loved spending time with her family and especially enjoyed following her grandchildren (and the Central Academy Lady Vikings) to all of their sporting events.

Mary Alice Beasley Coleman is survived by her son: Sammy Lindsey (Lisa) of Shuqualak, MS and by one brother: Jimmy Beasley of Houston, TX. She is also survived by three grand-daughters and two great- grandsons.
