Mr. Gene Shelton Wright, 82, of Brooksville, MS passed peacefully from this life at his residence on Wednesday, July 19, 2017. His funeral service will be held at Cockrell Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, July 22, 2017 at 10:00 AM with Bro. Glenn Miller officiating. Interment will follow in Brooksville Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM until service time Saturday morning. Mr. Wright was born on March 27, 1935 to the late Paul David and Zilla Shelton Wright in Pickens County, Alabama. He had been a resident of Brooksville since the age of twelve and attended Brooksville High School. Mr. Wright married the love of his life, Miss Patricia Long, on June 25, 1955 and together they made their home in Brooksville. He completed a correspondence course in air conditioning and refrigeration and later worked at B & W in West Point, MS for ten years. Mr. Wright began working in the dairy business and was a dairy specialist until his retirement. He owned and operated his own business, Wright’s Dairy Supply, in Brooksville. He was very dedicated to his customers, all of whom soon became his friends. He was also involved in the beef cattle industry as well as the dairy industry. Mr. Wright was a family-oriented man who loved and cherished all his family. His home was always open for family members in need and he was always looking for ways to help children in any way that he could. While Mr. Wright enjoyed having fun, his main hobby was working and staying busy. Mr. Wright was a member of Cooksville United Methodist Church in the Cooksville community of Noxubee County.
Mr. Wright is survived by his wife of 62 years: Patricia Long Wright of Brooksville; one daughter: Kathy White (John) of Glen Rose, TX ; and one son: Kenneth Wright (Dolly) of Brooksville. He also leaves behind two sisters: Faye Smith and Linda Thompson and one grand-daughter: Lauren Bentley as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Lavert, Lauren, and Charles Wright; and by one sister: Elaine McDill.
