Robert (Butch) M. Walker Jr.

Mr. Robert M. Walker, Jr. of Macon, MS, known to everyone as “Butch”, passed away at his residence on Monday, May 15, 2017. He was 63. Butch was born in Noxubee County on July 8, 1953 to the late Robert M. and Sally Kate Higginbotham Walker. He was a lifetime resident of Noxubee County who graduated with one of the first graduating classes (1971) at the then newly-formed Central Academy in Macon. Butch attended East Mississippi Junior College before becoming involved with law enforcement. He graduated from the Police Academy in Pearl, MS and worked as a city policeman and also as a Deputy Sheriff for Sheriff Cecil Russell. Butch took several advanced law enforcement classes, including Implied Consent Training Course and also the Motor Vehicle Traffic Accident Investigation Course. Butch continued in law enforcement for several years before becoming a successful life insurance agent for Lamar Life Insurance Co. and later Liberty National Life Insurance Companies. Butch garnered many sales achievement awards for his sales production for both companies, with many years of life sales being in excess of one million dollars of coverage sold, including one year of sales above seven million dollars of coverage sold. During this time Butch was also selected as an Outstanding Young Man of America for his leadership and professional achievement. He began working for Mr. Will Lindley at the Bait Shop in Macon for several years as well as handling several other jobs as well, including meter reader for the water association, substitute mail carrier, funeral director’s assistant at Cockrell Funeral Home, and helping at the Macon Stockyard. Butch began working as the Purchasing Agent for Noxubee General Hospital in 1988 and eventually was in charge of purchasing for the entire medical complex. He owned and operated the Sanco Quick-Stop from the mid-1990s until the early 2000’s. Butch was also a licensed auctioneer, graduating from the Nashville Auctioneer School in 2000. He was a member of Elon Baptist Church and attended Cooksville United Methodist Church. Butch enjoyed hunting, fishing, and animals of all types.
Butch Walker is survived by three daughters: Pam Walker Winn (Jody)
of Louin, MS; Jami Walker of Starkville, MS; and Samantha Walker of Sevierville, TN and by one son: Jason Walker of Macon. He is also survived by one sister: Kay Hailey (David) and by one brother: Larry Walker (Marie), all of Macon, MS. Also left to mourn his passing are four grandchildren: Walker Winn, Rhett Winn, Griffin Winn, and James Misso.

Robert M. “Butch” Walker, Jr.’s funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at 11:00 AM from Cooksville United Methodist Church near Macon. Bro. Glenn Miller will officiate at the service. Interment will immediately follow at Oddfellows Cemetery in Macon. Visitation will be held on Tuesday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. at Cockrell Funeral Home in Macon, which has been entrusted with the service arrangements. Memorials may be made to Blair Batson Childrens Hospital, 2500 N. State St., Jackson, MS 39216.
