Alvina spent her childhood years in the Greenland, Manitoba area. At twenty years of age, she, together with her parents, moved to Whitemouth, Manitoba. Growing up during the Depression was not easy, and the values she learned through hard work and frugal living served her well and were important facets throughout her life. At the age of sixteen she felt her need of a Savior, and upon true repentance was baptized into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite.
We will always remember her concern for our salvation. Many times, when leaving her place, she would encourage us to love Jesus, and we are comforted with her testimony and the assurance of salvation she left with us.

She was joined in marriage to Lloyd Hiebert on October 2, 1949, at Whitemouth, Manitoba. Their wedding was one of the last weddings to be performed in the German language. The first twenty-five years of their married life was spent on the dairy farm at Hillsboro, Kansas, and in these happy years they welcomed two sons and four daughters into their home. In 1973, the growing family moved to Macon, MS, where Mom supported Dad in his farming endeavors.

Mom was a loving homemaker and unselfishly dedicated her life to Dad and us children. Mom was a very hospitable person, and visitors were always welcome into our home where they would inevitably find her in the kitchen, cooking and baking. When our children were small, we fondly remember her support as she helped with them, babysitting and providing welcome meals. She was kind and considerate of all, and had a gift of making everyone feel special. She liked to keep busy, and she endeavored to teach us to occupy ourselves and our time in an efficient manner.

Dad’s interest in travel led them to many places, and Mom cheerfully accompanied him. One of the highlights for them both was the time they spent at the tract house in Germany. She also found fulfillment in reaching out to the less fortunate, and we remember her giving herself to numerous voluntary projects in the community. She especially enjoyed her service as a Pink Lady volunteer at the hospital, and, together with Dad, delivering Meals on Wheels. Her life’s motto was, “by serving others, you are serving God.”

The last eleven years of her life Mom was a resident at Oakwood Manor, and she was always very thankful for the excellent care she received. She had a cheerful disposition and a ready smile and retained her sense of humor until the end. We look forward to meeting her in heaven someday!

Left to cherish memories are her children; Joanne and Stan Vogel, Hillsboro, KS: Bonnie and Elgin Schmidt, Macon, MS: Randal and Sharon, Macon, MS: Linda and Wilbert Koehn, Brooksville, MS: Ruby and Randy Classen, Macon, MS: John and Bethany, Bow Island, AB. One brother Firmin and Agnes, Murray, KY. One sister, Leanna Wiebe, Steinbach, MB. Three sisters-in-law: Elda Giesbrecht and Bertha Giesbrecht, Steinbach, MB, Linda Giesbrecht, Abbotsford, BC., twenty five grandchildren and thirty great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, two sisters and six brothers.
