Mrs. Florence Rebecca Springer, 79, of Macon, MS passed away at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo on Wednesday, March 15, 2017. Her funeral service will be held on Sunday, March 19, 2017 at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Macon. Interment will follow in Oddfellows Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be made to Sweet Paws Rescue, P.O. Box 32, Macon, MS 39341 or The Ronald McDonald House, 2524 N. State St., Jackson, MS 39216. Cockrell Funeral Home of Macon is entrusted with the service arrangements.
Florence Rebecca Sandlin Springer was born in Ross, Texas to the late George H. and Nellie Kate Mitchell Sandlin. She graduated from China Spring High School in China Spring, Texas before moving to Macon, MS in 1963. Over the years Mrs. Springer has held a variety of jobs including working for Dr. Pat Gill, Senter’s Hardware, Shuqualak Brick Plant and GSI. She has also held part-time jobs at the Macon Beacon, Macon City Hall, and at Parker Florist. Mrs. Springer was a gifted seamstress who could create or repair almost any article of clothing and she enjoyed working as a self-employed seamstress for many years. Mrs. Springer never met a stranger and was always willing to take the time to visit with everyone she met. Her kindness also extended to the four-legged realm and she was always ready to welcome a dog or cat who needed a meal or some loving care. She loved spending time with all her family and especially treasured the visits of her grand- children and great-grandchildren. Mrs. Springer was a member of First Baptist Church in Macon.
Florence Rebecca Springer is survived by her daughter: Tracy Harvey Skinner (Bill) of Macon; her son: Andy Harvey of Valley Mills, TX and by her grandchildren: Will Skinner, Lee Skinner, and A.J. Harvey; and her great-grandchildren: Avery , Rylee, and Brooke Skinner. She is also survived by one brother: Joe Allen McRae of Whitney Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents and by one brother: Joe Sandlin
