Wanda Matthews

Wanda Matthews Cardullo, 85 of River Bend NC, formerly of Macon MS, died peacefully in her sleep on September 30, 2016 at Pruitt Health Center in New Bern NC. She was born on August 13, 1931 in Scooba Ms to the late Carl W Craig and Vallie Jo Holstein of Macon MS. A memorial service will be held Sunday, October 30, 2016 at First United Methodist Church in Macon, MS at 1 p.m. with Rev. Andy Pearson officiating. Wanda was a busy lady; prior to marriage, she was a John Robert Powers Model in New York, later she raised her only son after the death of her husband, Ryland Matthews (Sr.) back in 1967. She moved back to Macon MS in 1969 and later was the Deputy City Clerk and later City Clerk for the City of Macon. Late in the 1980’s she moved to New Bern NC and became active in the down town historic area. She was Financial Secretary at Centenary Methodist Church, President of the New Bern Women’s Club, Vice President of the Questers of Craven County, formed a local chapter of the Red Hats, member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), member of Historic District Residents Association, and active participant with the New Bern Ghost Walks and Historic Tours. Wanda moved back to Macon in 2008, where she was active there in the DAR and other activities. She finally returned and settled in River Bend in July 2016. She was preceded in death by her husband of six years, Tom Cardullo of New Bern, N.C.

Survivors include her only son, Ryland Jr. of River Bend, two grandsons: Ryland III of Jacksonville NC and Jeffrey of Columbus MS. Many nieces, nephews and cousins as well as her dog Beau.
