Janet Morton Swinney, 56, of Belmont, MS passed away on Sunday, October 9, 2016 at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. Her funeral service will be held at Cockrell Funeral Home Chapel in Macon, MS at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, October 12, with Bro. Nathan Hodum officiating. Interment will follow in Old Union Cemetery near Shannon in Lee County, MS at 3:30 P.M. Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. until service time at the funeral home. Janet Morton Swinney was born in Macon, MS on March 8, 1960 to the late John Billy Morton, Sr. and Mary Alice Trosper Morton. She spent much of her formative years in Macon. She attended West Kemper High School and later worked at Cal-Jac in Macon for over 13 years. She moved to Carthage, MS for a time and most recently lived in Belmont, MS. She was a member of Westside Baptist Church in Macon but attended Dennis Methodist Church in Dennis, MS. She had the heart of an angel and she loved her family dearly.
Janet Swinney is survived by her two daughters: Hollie Hannis and Tina Ingram, both of Carthage, MS and by her three sons: John Giles (Savannah) of Dennis, MS; James Giles (Christie) of Chatom, AL; and by Thomas Giles of Belmont, MS as well as by eleven grandchildren. She also leaves to mourn her passing her three sisters: Mary Ann Card of Shuqualak, MS; Judy Triplett of Brooksville, MS; Martha Hall of Macon, MS and her two brothers: Billy Morton of Starkville, MS and Eddie Morton of Louisville, MS.
