Oliver R. Harvey, 79, of Macon, MS passed away at Noxubee General Hospital in Macon on Sunday, August 21, 2016. His funeral service will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 24, at Cockrell Funeral Home Chapel in Macon at 11:00 A.M. with Bro. Bill Ross officiating. Interment will follow in Cotton Cemetery near Shuqualak, MS. Visitation will be Wednesday morning from 9:00 A.M. until service time at the funeral home. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials please be made either to the Ronald McDonald House, 2524 North State Street Jackson, MS 39216 or to the Palmer Home for Children P.O. Box 746 Columbus, MS 39301 . Cockrell Funeral Home (www.cockrellfuneralhome.com) of Macon, MS is entrusted with the service arrangements.
Oliver R. Harvey was born to the late Ralph and Mary Slough Harvey on September 14, 1936 in Wortham Bend, TX and graduated from the China Springs (TX) High School. He had been a resident of Noxubee County since 1963. He was self-employed in the agricultural industry for many years before beginning to work at Shuqualak Lumber Company Sawmill Division where he worked for twenty years before retiring. He then became a much-sought-after handyman in Noxubee County and he used this career to employ and train many of his grandchildren in his craft. After retiring from being a handyman, he and his wife “Dot” opened “Jefferson Street Antiques” about five years ago. Mr. Oliver enjoyed woodworking and tinkering with things, but his greatest joy came from spending time with his family. Mr. Oliver was known to one and all as a man of his word. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Glenn Harvey.

His survivors include his wife, Mrs. Dot Harvey of Macon, MS; daughters, Tracy Skinner, Debbie Jourdan & Tammy Sudduth all of Macon, MS., Nina Boykin of Caledonia, MS and sons Andy Harvey of Valley Mills, TX and Wayne Studdard of Brooksville, MS; brother, Ken Harvey of Oxford, MS; 17 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
