Mr. Charles Ruel Ewing, Jr., 85, of Brooksville, MS passed away on Thursday, June 30, 2016 at the Mississippi Veteran’s Nursing Home in Kosciusko, MS. A memorial service will held Saturday, July 23, 2016 at Rock Hill Farms (Ewing homeplace on Fairview Rd Brooksville, MS).The family has requested that any memorials be sent to the Palmer’ Home for Children 912 11th Ave South Columbus, MS 39701 or to your favorite charity. Cockrell Funeral Home of Macon, MS is entrusted with the funeral arrangements.


Mr. Ewing was a farmer who was born in Brooksville on March 12, 1931 to the late Charles Ruel and Juanita Dotherow Ewing. He grew up on the family farm near Brooksville and graduated from Brooksville High School. Mr. Ewing worked in the court systems in Alexandria, Virginia immediately following graduation from Ohio University. He later attended and graduated from Alexandria Theological Seminary. Mr. Ewing enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1953 where he assigned to the USS Joyce as a weather observer and received the National Defense Service Medal. After completing his service and education, he returned to Brooksville where he was engaged in farming on the family farm. Mr. Ewing was a talented photographer who enjoyed his art and could be found taking pictures locally and at area events.He was a member of the Episcopal Church in Brooksville where he taught Sunday school class for twenty five years. He was an avid gardener growing all kinds of vegetables to share with his family and friends. He remained in the Brooksville area until ill health forced him to move into the Veteran’s Home. Mr. Ewing’s final wish was that his body be donated to science in the hope that: ”with his dying, others would live”.

Mr. Ewing is survived by one sister: Mrs. Margaret Gray (Stanley) of Brooksville, MS; a niece, Melinda Gray Lucas (Alan; two nephews, Stanley "Randy" Randolph Gray (Debby) and William "Billy" Charles Gray. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother: William "Billy" Dotherow Ewing and by his wife: Mary Emma Hartness Ewing.
