SMSGT John P. Messer, USAF-Retired, age 67, passed away at his residence of Wednesday, May 18, 2016. His funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 21 at 2:00 P.M. from Elon Baptist Church near Macon, MS with Bro. Peyton Myers officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow in Moore Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday evening at Cockrell Funeral Home in Macon from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. John P. Messer was born in Arcadia, Florida on January 1, 1949 to the late Andrew Forrest and Edith Grace Walker Messer. He grew up in Arcadia and graduated from Desoto County High School. He joined the United States Air Force in 1966 and in 1968 he married Jean Messer, whom he had met during his military service. Mr. Messer served in the Viet-Nam War where he received a Bronze Star. He and his wife made careers of service in the Air Force and he retired as a Senior Master Sergeant. After their retirement, he and his wife moved to near Brooksville in Noxubee County, MS where they made their home. Mr. Messer worked for W.P. Chancellor and Sons wholesale grocery in Macon for eight years. He was a member of Elon Baptist Church near Macon and enjoyed fishing, hunting, and camping.

In addition to his wife, MSSGT. Messer is survived by his daughter: Paula Jane Messer Mistretta of Madison, MS; his grandson: Tanner Jaden Foster; sister-in-law: Betty Hensley and numerous nieces and nephews . He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters and two brothers
