Hubert C Hunter

Hubert C. Hunter of Macon, MS passed away at Noxubee General Hospital in Macon, MS nine days past his one hundred and fourth birthday. His funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at 11:00 a.m.at Cockrell Funeral Home Chapel in Macon with Bro. Mike Childs officiating. Interment will follow at Oddfellows Cemetery in Macon. Visitation will be from 10:00 until 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Memorials are requested to be made to Independent Methodist Church, P.O. Box 421, Macon, MS 39341. Cockrell Funeral Home (www.cockrellfuneralhome.com) is entrusted with the service arrangements.

Hubert C. Hunter was born on April 21, 1912 to the late Clinton Oakes and Clara Carter Wood Hunter in Noxubee County near the Alabama state line at Dancy. He lived his early years in the Mashulaville Community of Noxubee County before moving to Macon with his family in 1918. He and his family lived in the Noxubee County Jail where his father was the jailer. Mr. Hunter was a graduate of Macon High School and on June 17, 1934, he married the love of his life, Edith King and together they lived in the Macon area until her death in 2009. Over the course of his lifetime, Mr. Hunter held many jobs, starting at age five selling parched peanuts and popcorn. He also worked as a store clerk and for a time owned his own meat market. He enjoyed working with livestock and was a dairy and chicken farmer and a cattleman. Mr. Hunter served the public as a County Supervisor for Noxubee County District 3 for twenty years. He was a member of the Noxubee County Historical Society and was a founding member of Independent Methodist Church in Macon.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Hunter was preceded in death by his brother: Jack Hunter; two half-brothers: Waynard Hunter and Janiece Hunter and by one grandchild: Edith Jane Hunter.

Mr. Hunter is survived by his two sons: Hubert E. Hunter (Janice) of Louisville, MS and Harold K. Hunter (Charlotte) of Pearl, MS and by four grandchildren: Clint Hunter, Chris Hunter (Sue), Dr. Stephen Hunter (fiancée – Julie White), and Ginger Ming (Michael) and by one great-grandson: Hunter Ming. He also leaves behind one very special niece: Rebecca Hunter Field (Charlie) and her children Leslie and Erin. The family would like to give a very special thanks to Mr. Hunter’s sitters of twelve years: Doard Bell Gregory, Joyce Eaves, and Janet Garrard along with the help from Ethel Chandler and Treba Davis. The family would also like to acknowledge the staff of Noxubee General Hospital for their loving care. We, the family, know and appreciate the fact that these special people made Mr. Hunter’s last years so much easier and more comfortable.
