Our sister and aunt, Edna Smith, was born to Dan and Nettie (Koehn) Smith on September 20, 1915, in Goltry, Oklahoma. She peacefully passed away on Easter Sunday, March 27, 2016, as her family was singing around her bedside.
Edna's father passed away when she was three years old. She, together with her sister and mother, moved in with her grandparents. Edna grew up and received her education in Greensburg, Kansas. When she was nine years old, her mother married Alfred Smith, giving her a new dad.
At age thirteen, Edna was baptized into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite by Minister Ervy Yost, remaining faithful to her vows. She spent a large part of her life as a nurse aide, working at the hospital in Dodge City, Kansas, and other places. In the mid-seventies, she moved with her parents to Alabama. Edna lovingly cared for her parents until their passing.
Aunt Edna's family and friends richly benefited from her unselfish, caring heart. She spent much time in prayer where she mentioned her family daily. She will be remembered for her great faith in prayer. Aunt Edna took a special interest in her grand and great grand nieces and nephews, leaving them with many precious memories.
In August of 2013, she moved to Oakwood Manor in Brooksville, Mississippi. There, we celebrated her one hundredth birthday with her. We, as the family, greatly appreciate the wonderful care she received there.
Lovingly remembered by her sister, Vivian Koehn, Brooksville, Mississippi; her brother, Duane and Geneva Smith, Liberal, Kansas; and a host of nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister and brother-in-law, Evelyn and Edward Isaac, brother-in-law Emerson Koehn and two nephews.
