Mrs. Florence T. Strait, 87, of Macon, MS passed away on Sunday, March 20, 2016 at Louisville Health Center in Louisville, Ms. Her funeral service will be held at graveside at Cooksville Cemetery near Macon, MS on Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at 11:30 A.M. Bro. Bill Ross and Bro. Gerald Butler will officiate the services. Public visitation will be held on Tuesday morning from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. at Cockrell Funeral Home in Macon. Mrs. Florence T. Strait was born to the late Hamett and Margaret Hill Thornell in the Calyx community of Noxubee County, MS near Shuqualak. She graduated from Shuqualak High School and then married Jack Martin, who preceded her in death. She worked at the Dairy Dream drive in restaurant in Macon and later married Bobby Strait. After he fell ill to a stroke, Mrs. Florence, who was a natural care-giver, cared for him for several years until his death, just as she had her parents in their later years and later others in her community. She enjoyed working in her yard and was a great cook who loved to prepare meals for her family.
Mrs. Strait is survived by her two sons: Randy Martin (Janice) of Shuqualak, MS and Donnie Martin of Virginia as well as by two step-children: Jimmy Strait(Rita) of Jackson, TN and Kathryn Hurt (Bill) of Macon, MS. She is also survived by two sisters: Minnie Wildermuth and Sally Beird (Jim), all of Bellevue, Ill. and by three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren and by two step-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.
