John Carr Gauntt

Mr. John Carr (J.C.) Gaunt, 47, of Macon, MS passed away on Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, MS from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. His funeral will be held on Saturday, March 12, 2016 from Calvary Baptist Church in Macon at 2:00 P.M. with Bro. Bill Ross and Bro. Greg Duncan officiating. Interment will follow in Butler Cemetery near Shuqualak, MS. Visitation will be Saturday at the church from 12:00 noon until service time. Cockrell Funeral Home of Macon, MS (www.cockrellfuneralhome.com) is entrusted with the service arrangements. Any Memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church Children’s or Missions Ministries.

John Carr Gaunt, known to friends and family as J.C., was born in Anaheim, CA on March 31, 1968 to John and Patricia Carr Gauntt. As a son of Christian Missionary parents, J.C. lived in many different areas of the world. He spent most of his formative years in South America before moving back to the Coconut Creek Fla area, where he graduated from High School. He attended Broward Community College in Coconut Creek before moving to Macon, MS in 1989. There he met the love of his life, Amy Clark, and they were married on October 6, 1990. John was a hard worker who was skilled in many varied areas. He worked as a welder for Trailboss Trailers in Macon and later worked for several area farmers as an equipment operator. He worked for Mississippi Department of Transportion, also as an equipment operator. J.C. was the shop manager at Macon Machine Co., where he oversaw the rebuilding of pallet-making machines and their installation in plants across the United States. He also worked for East Mississippi Pole Co. at their Macon location. At the time of his accident, he was working as a truck driver for Grarock Trucking in Macon.
J.C. was a very active member of Calvary Baptist Church in Macon. No matter what the event was and no matter what had to be done, he was the first one there to help. His love for his fellow man was evident in everything that he was involved in and he made many friends, both in church circles and in the work place. He loved working with children and was involved in the Awana program, the Sunday afternoon community children’s outreach program, Wednesday night childrens ministry, and was a Sunday School teacher for one of the children’s Sunday School classes. J.C. was an ordained Deacon at Calvary and took his duties as a Deacon very seriously. J.C. was also involved in the Whole Man Prison Ministry and served as a Chaplain at Noxubee General Hospital in Macon. He went on several mission trips to Honduras and Mexico as well as in the United States. He also served his community as a volunteer fireman.He enjoyed fishing and hunting, especially deer and turkey.

J.C. is survived by his wife, Amy Clark Gauntt ; children, Lena Dawkins, Nicole Gauntt and Patrick Gaunt all of Macon, MS; parents, John and Pat Gauntt of Macon, MS; brother, George Gauntt of Georgetown, IN.; two grandsons and two nieces and a nephew.
