Kenneth “Moe” King
Bigbee Valley, MS
Kenneth “Moe” King, 60, of Brooksville, MS passed away at North Mississippi Medical Center on Sunday, December 13, 2015 after a brief illness. He was born in Amarillo, TX to Mildred Hines King and the late Hugh L. “Sonny” King on June 4, 1955. As a young child, Mr. King was given the nick-name “Moe” and it remained with him his entire life. Moe grew up and lived his entire life in the Cliftonville and Bigbee Valley area of Noxubee County, MS. He was rambunctious and “all boy” as a child and grew up on a farm surrounded by a large family and a mischievous group of cousins. He attended Central Academy in Macon, MS, where he was a popular student and a very good football player. He graduated with the Central Academy Class of 1973.
After he graduated high school, Moe returned to the farm life that he loved. Because a true farmer is a “jack of all trades”, Moe was also a heavy equipment operator, a pretty good shade tree mechanic, and a cattleman. He married Dee Brown in 1979 and they made their home on his family farm. He was a charter member of New Bethel Church where he served as song leader for many years. He was also a member of the River Supper Club. Moe was an outgoing man with an infectious personality who never met a stranger. He always made everyone feel as if they had known him for years and he made sure they’d never forget him. If you knew him, you loved him and to know him was to have a friend forever. He was the life of the party and enjoyed telling stories. While Moe could be loud and boisterous, he still possessed the most compassionate heart of any man anywhere. He would go above and beyond the call to help a friend or neighbor in need, from lending a tool to literally giving the shirt off of his back. His many friends will now have an empty place in their lives.
Moe is survived by his wife: Dee; His two daughters: Mollie K. Von Kanel (Matt) and Katie K. Shappley (Cody) and by one son: Walter King (fiancée -Jennifer). Also left to mourn his passing is his mother: Mildred and his sister: Kathy Mooney (David) as well as his nephew: Brad Foster and his in-laws: W.G. (Son) and Shirley Brown. He also leaves behind his grandchildren: Nathan Allen, Sunnie-Kate Von Kanel and Lucas and Cade Shappley as well as a large host of cousins and other extended family.
