Mrs. Anna Belle McLellan Holliman, 100, passed away on Tuesday December 1, 2015 at Sanctuary Hospice in Tupelo, MS. She was born in Cochrane, Alabama on May 17, 1915 to the late Dr. Thomas Roy and Nannie Temple Godfrey McLellan and was the last surviving child of their five children. Mrs. Holliman was educated at the local school in Cochran. Her father was a medical doctor in the Aliceville and Cochrane, Alabama areas and she assisted him in his medical duties. It was while she was assisting her father that she met her future husband: Wilbert Glenn Holliman. They soon married and then made their permanent home in Shuqualak, MS. After Mr. Holliman’s death, Mrs. Holliman remained in Shuqualak until 2009 when she moved into the Elderly Care Center in Macon, MS. Mrs. Holliman was a well-known cook who was locally famous for her made-from-scratch cakes. She also enjoyed crocheting. Mrs. Holliman loved working in her yard and was an avid flower gardener. She provided many of the floral arrangements used in her church, Shuqualak Baptist Church, for many years. She was an active member at the church where she kept the nursery for over forty years. Mrs. Holliman was a great friend to all. She was always carrying people to the doctor’s office and helping out others when she could. She enjoyed being with her family and was a loving grandmother to all her “grands”.
Mrs. Holliman is survived by one son: Wilbert G. (Mickey) and wife Babs Holliman 0f Tupelo, MS; seven grandchildren: Teleah Guyton Carter (Claude); Beverly Guyton Ross (Bill); Carlyn Holliman; Tracie Holliman Lanphere (Rusty);Skipper Holliman (Beth);Brandi Holliman Long (Gentry) & Paige Holliman. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren: Anna Leigh Ross Whitehead (Jonathan) , Trent Ross (Krystal); Emily Ross Vernon (Nick), Kyle Holliman, Emerson Holliman, Katherine Holliman, Sarah Holliman, Ty Lanphere, and Mary Holliman Lanphere and by her six great-great-grandchildren: Hallie Kate Vernon, Ross Wayne Vernon, Alana Kate Whitehead, Annalysa Kay Whitehead, Adyson Lynn Ross and Riley Cheryl Ross. In addition to her parents, siblings, and husband, Mrs. Holliman was preceded in death by her daughter: Janet Holliman Guyton and by one great-great-grandson: Rhett Watson Vernon.
A private graveside service was held on Friday, December 4, 2015 at Salem Memorial Cemetery near Macon, MS. The family requests memorials to be made to Sanctuary Hospice House, Tupelo, MS; Shuqualak Baptist Church of Shuqualak, MS; Calvary Baptist Church of Macon, MS; or Baptist Children’s Village in Jackson, MS. Cockrell Funeral Home of Macon (www.cockrellfuneralhome.com) was entrusted with the service arrangements.
