Mr. James E. Vernon, 92, of Louisville, MS. passed peacefully into his Heavenly Father’s arms in the early morning hours of Saturday, Nov.28, 2015. He had been a resident of the Louisville Healthcare retirement center for a short time Mr. Vernon was born in Noxubee County on November 17, 1923 to the late Clarence L. and Lela Joyce Hancock Vernon. He grew up in the Gholson & Butler communities and attended a local one-room school. He was a World War II veteran who served with the U.S. Army in the European Theater. He was awarded the Bronze Star medal along with several other decorations. On August 20, 1949 he married the love of his life, Miss Emma Jean Guin and together they made their home in Macon for over thirty years. For the past fourteen years they had lived in Louisville, MS near some of their children. Mr. Vernon had worked for Kent Farms and Taylor Machine Works for several years each, but had worked for Delta Macon (Boral) Brick Co. for most of his working life and it was from there that he retired. Mr. Vernon was a member of River of Life Church in Louisville, MS. Mr. Vernon had many hobbies, but his favorite past-times were hunting and fishing and spending time with his family and friends.

Mr. Vernon is survived by his wife: Emma Jean Vernon; his two daughters: Mrs. Linda Agnew of Louisville, MS and Mrs. Rebecca Foster of Nettleton, MS and his son: Jerry Vernon of Louisville, MS. He is also survived by his sister: Joyce Presley of Macon, MS and by three half-sisters: Sarah Scarborough, Faye Muirhead and Nancy Behm . Also left to mourn his passing are Mr. Vernon’s 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents; 3 brothers; and 3 sisters, Mr. Vernon was preceded in death by two sons: Earl and Michael Vernon.

Mr. James E. Vernon’s funeral service will be held on Monday, Nov. 30, 2015 at 10:00 A.M. at the River of Life Church in Louisville, MS with Bro. Nathan Lowe, Bro. Allen Eaves, Bro. Eddie Agnew, and Bro. Gerald Butler officiating. Interment will follow at Vernon Baptist Church Cemetery in Kemper County. Visitation will be at the River of Life Church from 5:00 until 8:00 P.M. on Sunday, Nov. 29. Cockrell Funeral Home of Macon, MS (www.cockrellfuneralhome.com) has been entrusted with the arrangements.
