Mrs. Clara Jourdan Kemp, 97, of Brooksville, MS passed away peacefully at her home on Friday July 31, 2015. Her funeral service will be held on Friday, August 7 at 11:00 A.M. from Fellowship Baptist Church with Bro. Dickie Bryan officiating. Visitation will be held on Thursday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. at Cockrell Funeral Home (3478 Jefferson Street) in Macon, MS and at the church on Friday morning from 10:30 until service time. Mrs. Clara Jourdan Kemp was born in Gholson, MS on February 21, 1918 to the late Barney Jackson and Mable Clark Jourdan and was educated in county schools. In 1933 she married Albert Kemp and became a housewife and homemaker. From 1951 until 1973, they made their home in Mobile, Al until moving back to their farm near Brooksville in late 1973. Mr. Kemp passed away in 1974 and Mrs. Clara remained on their farm for the rest of her life. She was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Starkville, MS. She was known to all as a sweet and gentle person who was strong in her faith. In addition to her parents and her husband, Mrs. Clara was preceded in death by one daughter: Sidney Ruth Kemp and by one son: John Kemp as well as by five brothers: J.W, T.C., Dan, Wilbur, and Roosevelt Jourdan and by two sisters: Lorraine Box and Elizabeth Cade. One granddaughter: Heather Garner and two grandsons: Randy Wigley and David Garner also preceded her in death.

Mrs. Clara is survived by two daughters: Mrs. Dorothy K. Garner of Caledonia, MS and Mrs. Jean K. Aspenwell of Wilmer, Ala as well as by one son: Thomas Kemp of Eight Mile, AL. She is also survived by two sisters: Hazel Davis and Earlene Howell, both of Starkville, MS and by twelve grandchildren; thirty great-grandchildren; thirty-seven great-great-grandchildren; and one great-great-great-grandchild.
