Lester Levi Yost

December 2, 1926 — May 16, 2015

LESTER YOST
My dear husband, our father and grandfather, Lester Yost, was born on December 2, 1926, to Deacon A.L. and Frances Holdeman Yost at Moundridge, Kansas, the youngest of 6 children. The Lord graciously took him home in the morning hours of May 16, 2015, reaching the age of 88 years.

His growing up years were spent on the family farm near Hesston, Kansas, where he received his education attending French School. At the age of 12 he gave his heart to the Lord and was baptized into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, on February 22, 1938. He remained true to his vows to the end.

From childhood he took a great interest in singing. At the age of 17 he was elected song leader in the Meridian Congregation. Singing was a large part of his life until his last days. Over the years he was faithful in exercising his gift, singing in groups, and teaching singing.

On April 21, 1946, he was joined in marriage to Molly Becker, by Min. Jesse Johnson. The blessings and heartaches of life were shared together for over 69 years. They made their home on his childhood home place for 26 years where he was engaged in farming and dairying. This gave us children many opportunities to learn the benefits of hard work. They moved to Macon, Mississippi, in 1973. He farmed here in Mississippi for a number of years. Later he appreciated the opportunity that Mr. Mike gave him to work at Trailboss Trailers, which included delivering trailers, lawn care and working with flowers. Dad’s devotion to his wife and loving concern for his family is a precious memory and an inspiration to us.

He was a quiet humble father and keeper of the faith. From time to time our father had special touches from the Lord assuring him of his salvation. Just a few months before his death he had one of those special assurances which sustained him to the end. He cherished the hope of seeing his Savior and meeting his little daughter, Mary Ellen, who had gone before.

The last couple of years Dad and Mom were able to move into an apartment in the Oakwood retirement community. It was a pleasant, enriching way for them to spend their last years together. Dad said it was next door to Heaven.

Those left to cherish precious memories are his devoted wife, Molly; five children: Dale and wife, Cindy, Lakin, KS; Arlo and wife, Esther, Paxton, NE; Arlene and husband, Bob Boeckner, Macon, MS; Larry and wife, Joanne, Sutherland, NE; Carol and husband, Leonard Koehn, Scotia, NE; 20 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; two brothers: Emery and Rose Yost, and Clayton and Maxine Yost, both of Moundridge, KS; brother-in-law, Herby Wenger, Newton, KS; sisters-in-law: Elizabeth Koehn, Brooksville, MS; Theda Becker, and Helen Becker, both of Moundridge, KS, nephews, nieces, and many friends.

He was predeceased by his parents, one daughter, Mary Ellen; one brother, Floyd; two sisters: Letha, Mrs. Milferd Wenger, and Elva, Mrs. Herby Wenger.

Funeral services are planned for Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at 10;30 a.m. at South Haven Mennonite Church. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church Monday from 6-8 p.m. Memorials may be made to Oakwood Manor, P.O. Box 325, Macon, Ms 39341. Cockrell Funeral Home of Macon is entrusted with arrangements.
