Macon, MS

Mary Anderson, 92, of Macon MS passed away on Monday, March 30, 2015 at Rush Foundation Hospital in Meridian after a brief illness. Mrs. Anderson was born in Meridian MS on March 21, 1923 to the late Cecil Howard and Pauline Simmons Ryan. She graduated from the Dixie Highway School near Meridian and also from Meridian Junior College. She also attended Mississippi State College for Women. On February 26, 1950 she married her soul-mate, Dr. Walter Anderson of Macon, MS. The couple lived briefly in Starkville before moving to Macon, where they made their home. Mrs. Anderson, while being a housewife and homemaker all her life, also operated a preschool daycare out of her home for several years. She later became a librarian with the Noxubee County Library, a position that she held until her retirement. Mrs. Anderson was a faithful and active member of First Baptist Church in Macon where she was involved in the Ageless Wonders and sang in the choir. She was also a longtime member of the Magnolia Supper Club and the Jolly 20 Club in Macon. Mrs. Anderson loved working in her yard and was known locally for her beautiful roses. This led to her being involved with the Starkville Rose Society. Mrs. Anderson was known in her community as a great neighbor and as a faithful friend who was always willing to drive someone to an appointment or an event. She loved to meet people and visit with her friends and was a fixture at church and social functions. She will be sorely missed by the entire community.
Mrs. Anderson was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three sisters, and one brother. She leaves to mourn her passing her daughter: Paula Gayle Russell (Garry) of Kingsville, TX and her three sons: Dr. Clayton Anderson (Becky) of Columbus, MS; Dr Neal Anderson (Beverly) of Pontotoc, MS; and by Dr. Ryan Anderson (Lisa) of Carthage, MS. She is also survived by nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Anderson’s funeral service will take place at her beloved First Baptist Church on Friday, April 3 at 2:00 P.M. with Bro. Steve Galloway and Dr. Bill Duncan officiating. Interment will immediately follow in Shuqualak Cemetery in Shuqualak, MS. A time of visitation will be held on Thursday evening at Cockrell Funeral Home in Macon between the hours of 6:00 and 8:30 P.M. The family requests that any memorial bequests please be sent to First Baptist Church P.O. Box 510 Macon, MS 39341 or to the Mississippi Baptist Children’s Village P.O.
