Helen Adams Aycock, 89, passed away at Traceway Retirement Center Nursing Home in Tupelo, MS on March 13, 2015 surrounded by her family.
She was born on August 14, 1925 to Miles Adams and Zola Dugan Adams in Macon, MS. Helen graduated from Macon High School and East Mississippi Community College. Shortly thereafter, she accepted a position as receptionist with Bradshaw Veterinary Clinic in Macon.
January 5, 1946 she married Ellis H. Aycock and moved to the Birmingham area where she resided until 1956. She moved to Columbus and began her career with Belk Hudson and Company as an accessory buyer in the ladies department.
Helen was a long time member of Salem United Methodist Church. She attended First Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Columbus, MS for many years. She was an active member of the Altriust Sunday School Class and a devoted member of the Cumberland Ladies Aid Society. Helen served as card chairman for the church many years, sending hundreds of sympathy and get-well cards to members and friends. She was a long time member of the Noxubee County Historical Society.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ellis Aycock of 53 years, parents, Miles and Zola Adams, sister, Gloria Crabtree, and niece Sheila James Newell. She is survived by a sister Nancy James (J.W.) of Starkville, MS, brother-in-law John Crabtree and nephew John Michael Crabtree of Tupelo, MS.
Memorial services will be held Monday, March 16, 2015 at 2 p.m. at Cockrell Funeral Home in Macon, MS. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services. Burial will be at Salem Cemetery.
