William Baker “Bill” Hunter, 56, passed away suddenly at his residence on Tuesday, January 28, 2015. His funeral will be held Friday, Jan. 30 at the Chapel of Cockrell Funeral Home at 3:00 P.M. Dr. Andy Pearson will officiate at the service. Interment will immediately follow in X-Prairie Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday from 1:00P.M. until service time at the funeral home. Bill was born on August 21, 1958 in Macon to Robert Jackson (Bobby Jack) and Janie Therrell Hunter. He attended Macon Elementary School and graduated from Central Academy in Macon, Class of 1976. While in high school, he was a bull riding member of the rodeo team, which went to three National High School Rodeo finals. After high school, Bill began working with Tom Soya Grain in Alabama and then helped to build and operate their facility on the Tenn-Tom Waterway. He was later employed with Gold Kist, GSI, and Outdoor Technology before becoming self-employed. When his mother fell ill, Bill showed everyone his big, loving heart as he stayed with her and took care of her. He spent his last days at her side. Bill was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing and golf. He was also a faithful fan of Ole Miss sports.
Bill Hunter is survived by one daughter: Codye Hunter Estes of Hernando, MS and one son: Sy Hunter of Caledonia, MS. He is also survived by his mother: Janie T. Wood of Macon, MS and his father and step-mother: Bobby Jack Hunter, Sr. and Wanda of Louisville, MS. He also leaves to mourn his passing his sister: Rebecca W. Jackson of Gardnerville, NV. and his two brothers: Robert Hunter Jr. of Macon, MS, and Roane Hunter of Madison, MS. He is also survived by two step-sisters: Karen Jordan of Germantown, TN and Pam Wood of Knoxville, TN and by two step-brothers: John Wood of Nashville, TN and Chris Coleman of Hawaii well as several nieces and nephews.
