Mr. William J. “Fat” Moore, 82, passed away on Friday, January 16, 2015 at Sanctuary Hospice in Tupelo after a long illness. His funeral service will be held on Sunday, January 18 at McLeod Chapel Cumberland Presbyterian Church near Macon at 2:00 P.M. with Bro. Sam Foreman officiating. Interment will follow in Moore Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday at the church from 1:00 P.M. until service time. Any memorials may be made to the Moore Cemetery Fund % Bobby Cade 1399 Beersheba Rd. Columbus, MS 39702. Cockrell Funeral Home (www.cockrellfuneralhome.com) of Macon is entrusted with the arrangements.
William J. Moore, known to family, friends, and co-workers as “Fat”, was born in Macon, MS on Feb. 26, 1932 to the late Bede and Cora Sloan Moore. He attended school in Brooksville and later served in the Korean War in the US Army, attaining the rank of Corporal. 1n 1952 he married Dorothy Ray and they made their home near Macon. He began working at B & W in West Point, MS and retired from there after 23 years as a pipe-fitter and welder. He was also involved in cattle and hay farming on his property. Mr. Moore was a lifelong member of McLeod Chapel Cumberland Presbyterian Church and served as an Elder for the church, an office he first attained at age 18 and one he served in until the present. He was always very active in any church activity that occurred. Mr. Moore loved spending time with all his family.
Mr. Moore is survived by his wife of over 62 years: Dorothy R Moore of Macon; one daughter: Mrs. Wanda M. (Donnie) Lee of Macon and two sons: Jim (Jenny) Moore of Roswell, Ga and Joey (Heidi) Moore of Tupelo, MS. Also left to mourn his passing are his two sisters: Margaret Ann Rosser of Goshen, IN. and Mary Lois Combs of West Point, MS as well as seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and five brothers.
