A memorial service for Donald Wayne Culpepper, 73, will be conducted by Rev. Steve Galloway, of First Baptist Church in Macon, at Cockrell Funeral Home on Saturday, November 22, at twelve noon.
A long-time resident of New Orleans, Don passed away on October 24 from complications of prostate cancer.
He was the fourth child of Clyde M. and Mattie Ruth Manning Culpepper, born on August 5, 1941, in Meridian, Mississippi.
Survivors include his brother Moody Culpepper and wife Beth of Vicksburg, MS; sister Patricia C. Schiffbauer of Lafayette, LA; niece Ann Evans W. Wall, her husband Don, and daughter Campbell of Baton Rouge, LA; niece Paula W. Sansom, her husband Steve, and sons Whit and Alex of Memphis, TN; niece Gay C. Drake, husband Joe, and daughter Anna of Jackson, MS; and nephews Michael Culpepper and Joe McDermott of Seattle; and the adored puppy Sadie.
He was predeceased by his parents, his sister Lynnda C. Whittington, and brothers-in-law Alex Whittington and John Schiffbauer.
Don grew up in Macon, MS, was graduated from Macon High School, and attended the University of Southern Mississippi, where he became a devoted Golden Eagle football fan. Attending Golden Eagle football games was a life-long pastime for him. He was also a staunch Saints fan. He was phenomenal with sports statistics. Ask him about any college or pro football or basketball game, and he could give you a quick run-down without using a computer.
As a realtor in New Orleans he appreciated its historic culture and was excited to learn the background and development of each district. He had a keen eye for art, architecture, and decorating. Christmas was his special season; he decorated elaborately and made a fuss over selecting the just-right gift for family members and friends.
Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 110 Lawrence Street, Macon, Mississippi 39341.
