Mrs. Mae Stevens Barrett, 85, of Shuqualak, MS passed away at Windsor Place Nursing Home in Columbus, MS on Friday, November 14, 2014 after a lengthy illness. Her funeral service will be held at Shuqualak Baptist Church on Sunday, Nov. 16 at 3:00 P.M. with Bro. Derrick Wilson officiating. Interment will follow in Shuqualak Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church from 2:00 until 3:00 P.M. Sunday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Central Academy, P.O. Box 231 Macon, MS 39341. Cockrell Funeral Home Inc. of Macon, MS (www.cockrellfuneralhome.com) has been entrusted with the service arrangements.

Mae Stevens Barrett was born on December 18, 1928 in Tremont, MS to the late Egbert and Ora Jane Harbor Stevens. She was a graduate of Tremont High School and East Mississippi Junior College. She married Charlie Barrett on May 14, 1950. She was a homemaker and later worked at Shuqualak Lumber Company and Delta Brick Company. She was a member of Shuqualak Baptist Church. She enjoyed working in her yard.

Mrs. Barrett is survived by three daughters: Suzanne Barrett (Allen) Worley of Spring, Texas; Patti Barrett (Rodney) Paschal of Columbus, MS and Lisa Barrett (Sammy) Lindsey of Shuqualak, MS. She is also survived by one son: Steve Barrett of Columbus, MS as well as by one brother: Ray Stevens of Tremont, MS. Also left to mourn Mrs. Barrett’s passing are her grand children: Emily Davis, Melissa Scheve, Austin Barrett, Zachary Barrett, Jordi Barrett, Brittany Merchant, Jason Paschal, Lillian Ray and Sadie Lindsey as well as by her great-grandchildren: Payslie Barrett, Taylor Beth Merchant, and Sam Ray.
