Mr. John H. “Johnny” Kemp, 71, of Brooksville, MS passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2014 at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, MS. A Celebration of his home-going will be held on Saturday, November 1, at 11:00 A.M. from Fellowship Baptist Church in Starkville, MS. Bro. Dickie Bryan will officiate at the service. Graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. at Brooksville Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday evening at Cockrell Funeral Home in Macon, MS from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. and from 10:00 A.M. until service time at the church Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his honor are requested to be made to Fellowship Baptist Church Celebrate Recovery Program, 545 Frye Road Starkville, MS 39739, to the American Heart Assn. P.O. Box 840692 Dallas, TX 75284-0692, the American Cancer Society 209 N West Street Macon, MS 39341 or the charity of your choice.

Mr. Kemp was born in Crawford, MS on Dec. 19, 1942 to Clara Jourdan Kemp and the late Albert D. Kemp. He was a longtime resident of the Brooksville area where he was engaged in farming and dairying for most of his life. He was a veteran of the Army National Guard and was a very active member and Deacon at Fellowship Baptist Church. Being the friendly and caring person he was Mr. Kemp was well liked by all who met him. He was a great believer in second chances and he volunteered much of his time to work with the church addiction program “Celebrate Recovery”.

In addition to his father, Mr. Kemp was preceded in death by his infant sister: Sidney Ruth Kemp. He leaves to mourn his passing his mother: Clara Jourdan Kemp of Brooksville; two sisters: Jean K. Aspinwall of Wilmer, AL and Dorothy K. Garner of Caledonia, MS, and one brother: Thomas Kemp of Prichard, AL. He is also survived by two aunts, a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins and by many, many friends.
