Betty V. Moore Dougherty

Betty V. Moore Dougherty, 84, of Gulfport, MS passed peacefully away at her son’s residence in Brooksville, MS on October 24, 2014. She was born on February 19, 1930 in Electric Mills, MS to the late Stephen A. and Bonnie Lee Slawson Vandevender. She was reared in Mayhew, MS and was a graduate of Artesia High School. Mrs. Dougherty was employed for several years with Bosch Technology and then with the John Stennis Ammunition Plant near Picayune, MS. She later worked for the Gulfport School System, from which she retired. She was a lifetime member of the McLeod Chapel Cumberland Presbyterian Church near Brooksville, MS. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Robert Dougherty; one son: Doug Moore; and two sisters: Bonnie Faye and Wanda. She leaves to mourn her passing two sons: Ernest Moore (Patsy) of Brooksville, MS and Steve Moore (Janie) of Slidell, LA; daughter in law, Diane Moore of Brooksville as well as 7 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and one great-grandchild expected soon. She is also survived by three sisters: Mary Reed of Pennsylvania Linda Citi of California and Hilda Ann Cooper of Gulfport, MS and by two brothers: Steven Vandevender of Nashville, TN and Walter Vandevender of Albuquerque, NM
Mrs. Dougherty’s funeral service will be held on Monday, October 27, 2014 at 3:00 P.M. from Cockrell Funeral Home Chapel in Macon, MS. Bro. Lawrence Runnels and Bro. Jim Garner will officiate at the services. Interment at Moore Cemetery will immediately follow the funeral service. A time of visitation for family and friends will be held Sunday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home. The family requests that any memorials to please be sent to the American Legion Post 119 % Post Commander Ron Jurgensen 12230 Sandy Hook Lane Gulfport, MS 39503.
