Mrs. Betty M. Palmer, 87, of Brandon, MS (formerly of Macon, MS) passed away Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at Brandon Nursing and Rehab Center in Brandon. Her funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 24, at 2:00 P.M. from Cockrell Funeral Home Chapel in Macon, MS. Rev. Ricky Glenn will officiate at the service. Visitation will be from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home. Interment in Oddfellows Cemetery in Macon will follow the funeral service. Cockrell Funeral Home of Macon, MS (www.cockrellfuneralhome.com) is entrusted with the arrangements.

Betty McQuien Palmer was born on September 30, 1926 in Louisville, MS to the late Hugh Vivian and Mary Jeanette Bradshaw McQuien . She was educated in the local school system and then received her Nursing degree from Rush Infirmary in Meridian MS. She met and married the love of her life, Bob Palmer, and together they moved to Macon where they made their home until, following her husband’s death, ill health forced Mrs. Palmer to relocate to the Jackson area. While in Macon, she worked as a registered nurse for many years at Noxubee General Hospital. She was a member of Macon’s First Baptist Church and the Dancing Rabbit Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Mrs. Palmer is survived by her daughter: Ann Welch and her husband David Welch of Raymond, Mississippi; and her daughter in law:, Peggy Palmer of Union, Mississippi; granddaughters: Kaylee Welch of Raymond, Mississippi , April Palmer Gernaat and her husband Doug Gernaat of Starkville, Mississippi and Sherry Gunn and her husband Mark Gunn of Meridian, Mississippi; grandsons: Brad Palmer and his wife Krystal of Philadelphia, Mississippi, Rob Welch of Madison, Mississippi and Greg Winstead of Union, Mississippi; six great-grandchildren, Cole Gernaat, Ethan Palmer, Logan Palmer, Molly Palmer, Zoey Palmer and Zach Griffin;
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert C. Palmer ; one son: Robert C. Palmer, Jr.; and four siblings.
