John L. Dugan, Sr., 95, passed away at his residence in Hernando, MS on July 16, 2014. A graveside service will be held at Shuqualak Cemetery in Shuqualak, MS on Saturday, July 19 at 2:30 P.M. with Mr. Dugan’s nephew, Roy Lanier, Jr., officiating. Visitation will be at Cockrell Funeral Home on Saturday from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. The family requests that any memorials please be made to Shuqualak Baptist Church P.O. Box 74 Shuqualak, MS 39361 or to the charity of the donor’s choice. Cockrell Funeral Home (www.cockrellfuneralhome.com) of Macon is entrusted with the service arrangements.

Mr. Dugan was born on April 23, 1919 t the late Josephine Calhoun and Robert Monroe Dugan. He was a graduate of Shuqualak High School and was working for the Department of the Navy in Washington D.C. when he was drafted during World War I I. He chose to be a part of the United States Air Force. He was with the 388th Bomb Squadron stationed in Knettishall, England, when his plane was shot down over the North Sea and he was taken prisoner by the Germans for 18 months.

After the war, he returned to Shuqualak to accept a job with the U. S. Post Office, where he served 30 years and continued to live until 2005, when he moved to Hernando, Ms.

Mr. Dugan was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters, 10 brothers and 2 grandsons. Survivors include his wife of 64 years: Earline Dickson Dugan, of Hernando, Ms.; a daughter; Pat Dugan McLeod (Marion) of Hernando, Ms.; 2 sons, John L Dugan, Jr. of Starkville and Robert Dickson Dugan (Betsy Anderson) of Brandon, Ms., 3 grandchildren, 2 step-grand children and 2 great grandchildren.
