Mrs. Betty Jean Cooper, 77, of Macon, MS passed away Tuesday, July 15, 2014 after a long illness. Her funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 19, from Calvary Baptist Church in Macon at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in Soule Chapel Cemetery near Macon. Visitation will be Friday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. at Cockrell Funeral Home in Macon, which is entrusted with the service arrangements. Memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church 105 Dent Street Macon, MS 39341.
Betty Jean Cotton Cooper was born in Noxubee Co., MS on March 7, 1937 to the late Jimmy Jack and Annie Louise McCreight Cotton. She lived in Noxubee County her entire life. She was a graduate of Shuqualak High School , and on November 22, 1953, she married the love of her life, Louis T. Cooper. She was a long-time office manager for the Macon Beacon Newspaper in Macon and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, where she was a teacher in the AWANA program. Mrs. Cooper was a member of the Noxubee Garden Club, the Ageless Wonders, and also a member of the Jolly 20’s club. She enjoyed gardening, bird-watching, and was a very talented cook. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who loved spending time with her family. Mrs. Cooper was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, three brothers: Edward Cotton, Paul Cotton, and Jimmy Cotton and by three sisters: Eloise Lybarger, Marie Abrams, and Shirley Schallert.

Mrs. Cooper is survived by her daughter: Vicki McCuistion of Brandon, Fla. and her son: Jackie Cooper of Leeds, AL. She is also survived by two sisters: Dorothy Harvey and Alice Slawson, both of Macon, MS. Also left to mourn her passing are 5 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
