Walter Beal Moore, 87, of Macon, MS passed away at his home on Monday, July 14, 2014. His funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 17, at 10:30 A.M. from Noxubee Christian Center in Macon with Bro Jimmy Hunter officiating. Interment will follow at Soule Chapel Cemetery near Macon. Public visitation will be held on Wednesday from 7:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. at Cockrell Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice. Cockrell Funeral Home (www.cockrellfuneralhome.com) is entrusted with the service arrangements.

Walter Beal Moore was born in Noxubee County, MS on January 10, 1927 to the late William Hobson and Willie Dell Taylor Moore. Mr. Moore lived his entire life in Noxubee County, surrounded by his family and friends. He attended the local schools and later served in the U.S. Army near the end of World War II. Mr. Moore worked in Columbus, MS at Mitchell Engineering (now CECO) and retired after 28 years of service. He married the former Frances Carter on August 28, 1954 and together, for nearly 60 years, they enjoyed life in rural Noxubee County. Mr. Moore was an avid hunter, enjoyed riding four-wheelers and was a die-hard fan of Mississippi State University sports. His favorite past-time in life, however, was spending time with his beloved family.

Mr. Moore is survived by his wife: Frances Moore of Macon; four daughters: Elaine Sigafoose (Kenny) of Columbus, MS; Fran Herrick(Willy) also of Columbus, MS; Brenda Oswalt (Chico) of Macon; and Faith Rushton (Mark) of Aberdeen, MS. Also left to mourn his passing are two sisters: Pam Gentry of Longview, MS and Texa Ray Reynolds of Birmingham, ALA. as well as eleven grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents ; two brothers: William C. and Robert C. Moore and one sister: Carolyn Karnes.
