David Boyd Thomas, 90, of Preston, MS. passed away on Sunday, July 6, 2014 at Mississippi Veterans Home in Kosciusko, MS. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at Cockrell Funeral Home Chapel in Macon, MS at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow in Vernon Baptist Church Cemetery near Preston, MS. Visitation will be held at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Mr. Thomas was born in Noxapater, MS. on September 14, 1923 to the late Henry Edward and Laun Frances Johnson Thomas. He moved to Shuqualak at an early age where he attended school. He served his country in the U.S. Army in World War II and was a decorated war veteran having received several medals including Purple Heart Medal and Bronze Service Star. After returning home from the war he purchased some property and began farming. He married Virgie Ruth Higginbotham on 12-16-1949. He was a member of Macon Pentecostal Church. He is preceded in death by his parents, and siblings: Louise Moore, Agnes Bouchillion, Rose Taylor, and Ed Thomas.


He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Virgie Thomas of Preston, MS; daughter, Gail Benton of Preston, and son, Evans Thomas of Preston, MS; two grandchildren; two step-grandchildren and three step great grandchildren.
