Ann Constance “Connie” Phillips, 97, of Oxford, MS died Saturday, July 5, 2014 at Baptist Memorial Hospital, Oxford, MS, after a brief illness. A funeral mass will be held Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Macon, MS at 11 a.m. with interment at Oddfellows Cemetery with Father Joe Tonos officiating. Immediately following, the family will receive guests at the Corpus Christi parish hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Corpus Christi Catholic Church, P.O. Mrs. Phillips was born on July 7, 1916, in Vicksburg, Miss. to the late Annie and Walter Mattingly. She was a graduate of the St. Francis Xavier girls school and worked for many years as a secretary for the P.P. Williams Company. In 1940, she married L.C. Phillips and later moved to Noxubee County.

Mrs. Phillips was a longtime resident of the Prairie Point community outside Macon where she served as the postmaster of the Prairie Point post office from the mid-1970’s until her retirement in the late 1980’s . Prior to that appointment, she was the assistant postmaster. She also was co-proprietor, along with her husband, of the Prairie Point Cash Store.

Over the years, Mrs. Phillips was an active member of many local organizations including, most recently, the National Association of Retired Federal Employees (NARF), for which she held several board positions. She also was a member and benefactor of Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Macon, Miss.

At the time of her death, Mrs. Phillips was a resident of Emeritus, an independent senior living community in Oxford. She also resided in Macon, prior to moving to Marion, AL, where she lived a number of years.

Her survivors include daughters: Margie Hawn and husband Ralph of New Smyrna Beach, Fla. ; Frances Wildstein and husband Barry of Oxford, MD.; Carolyn Howard and husband Jack of Oxford, MS; son, Cal Phillips and wife
