Reuben Austin Triplett

Reuben Austin Triplett, 79, of Montevallo, Al. passed away on Thursday, June 12, 2014 at his residence. A funeral service will be held Monday, June 16, 2014 at 3 p.m. at St. David’s Anglican Catholic Church, Mayhew, Mississippi. Interment will follow in Brooksville Cemetery in Brooksville, MS. There will be no public visitation. Memorials may be made to St. David’s, P.O. Box 33, Mayhew, MS 39753 or Noxubee County Nursing HOme, P.O. Box 480, Macon, MS 39341. Mr. Triplett was born to the late William Henry Bates Triplett and Mary Clytee Austin Triplett on August 9, 1934 in Brooksville, MS. He graduated from Brooksville High School in May 1952. After graduation his first job was working at Owings Drug Store in Brooksville, MS. In January of 1953 he started college at Mississippi College in Jackson, MS. He later transferred to Mississippi State University where he received his bachelor’s degree in English History. He received a Master’s Degree from the University of Tennessee. He did post-master’s work at Ole Miss for a PHD. He taught English History at the University of Montevallo from 1964 to 1988. He returned to Brooksville to retire in 1988 due to his mother’s declining health.. A few years after his mother died he returned to Montevallo, Alabama where he remained until his death. He served in the U. S. Air Force. His hobbies were history, genealogy and gardening. He traveled the world searching for his ancestors and collecting date on them. His nieces and nephews enjoyed listening to all of his great stories. He loved “projects” and busy working at one or two all of the time. He is preceded in death by his brother William Bates Triplett of Brooksville, MS and his sister, Elsie Triplett Pugh of Oxford, MS.

He is survived by 3 nieces, Cecile Zieren of Oxford, MS; Gail Patterson of Birmingham, AL., Debbie Poe of Indianola, MS and two nephews, Ron Triplett of Chicago, IL., and Olen Pugh of Brooksville, MS;as well as six great nieces and nephews.
