Richard Ray Proffitt

Rev. Richard Ray Proffitt, 98, passed away on Saturday, March 1, 2014 at Noxubee General Hospital. A visitation will be held Monday, March 3, 2014 at Cockrell Funeral Home from 5-7 p.m. The family requests no flowers, please, Memorials may be made to Noxubee County Library, 103 E. King St., Macon, MS, 700 Club, PTL Club or any religious organization that reaches the gospel.

Rev. Proffitt was born in Boone County, IN on December 23, 1915 to the late Emory Ray and Grace Opal Emmert Proffitt. He was a graduate of Pinnell High School. He worked on a farm and in apple orchards before entering U.S. Marine Corp. He was a staff sergent serving in WWII. He moved to Columbus, Ohio where he became a brick mason. He became a minister in 1963 with the Assembly of God Church. He moved to Shuqualak in 1966 where he worked as a brick mason and minister to DeKalb Christ Assembly Church until he retired.

Survivors included his daughter, Judy E. Proffitt of Shuqualak, 4 step grandchildren and nieces and a nephew.
