Martha Lindley Hightower, 89, of Macon passed away Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014 at Noxubee County Nursing Home in Macon. Her funeral service will be held Sunday, Jan. 12 at 2:00 P.M. at Concord Baptist Church with Bro. Sean Greer officiating. Interment will follow in Salem Cemetery. A period of visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Martha Lindley Hightower was born on January 23, 1924 to the late William Edward and Hazel Adams Lindley and reared in the Concord Community of Noxubee County, where she lived her entire life. She graduated from Macon High School and attended East Mississippi Junior College. She married W. T. Hightower in 1943. For 38 years, until their retirement in 1997, they owned and operated Hightowers’s Feed Store and Service Station, where you could not only buy gas, feed, and grain but could also utilize the services of Western Union. She was a member of the Macon Pilot Club and the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a longtime active member of Concord Baptist where she served as Church Clerk, Sunday School Teacher, and Vacation Bible School Teacher. She was known as “Miss Mott” to the Miller grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was looking forward to reaching her 90th birthday. Mrs. Hightower was preceded in death by her husband, her brother: Charles Edward Lindley. She was also preceded in death by a brother, William Lanier Adams and sister Bonnie Raye Adams Fontaine whom were reared as her siblings.
She is survived by one daughter: Lynn Miller (Gary) of Macon, MS
