Dr. James C. Ratcliff, age 81, passed away on May 13, 2013 at home after a long illness. He was born in Meridian, MS on November 5, 1931. He grew up in Philadelphia, MS; received his M.D. degree from Northwestern University in Chicago, IL; served as a flight surgeon on Kadena Air Base, Okinawa; and practiced family medicine in Brooksville, MS for 40 years.
Dr. Ratcliff is survived by his wife, Carol; four children: Karen Varner (Paul), Suzi Bell (Dudley), Jim Ratcliff ( Sloan Eskrigge), Bob Ratcliff (Robin); Grandchildren: Heather Mason (Chris), Jaimee Lee (Stephen), Fran Snow (Nathan), Joel Varner (Laura), and Amanda Bell; Great-Grandchildren: Anslee and Daniel Mason, Mary Ratcliff Lee, and Elliot and Cora Snow; Siblings: Marvin L. Ratcliff (Faye) and Mary Lyles (John).
The family would like to thank the nursing staffs at The Orchard and Hospice Ministries Inc. in Ridgeland, MS for their excellent care. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Hospice Ministries Inc.; 450 Towne Center Blvd; Ridgeland, MS 39157 would be appreciated.
Visitation will be Thursday, May 16 at Cockrell Funeral Home in Macon, MS from 1:00-3:00 PM with a grave side service at Brooksville Cemetery, Brooksville, MS at 3:30 PM.
Pallbearers are Joel Varner, Chris Mason, Stephen Lee, Nathan Snow, William Parker, Richard Heard, and Neil Abrams. Honorary Pallbearers are Bobby Crespino, Robert Cunningham, Stanley Gray , Robert Temkovits and “The River Crew, Past and Present”.
